Volunteering at the Centre!

Volunteers are always required for a variety of jobs. This kind of involvement helps to keep the dance tuition fees low as without the assistance of our parent group, many activities would need to be undertaken by staff, the cost of which would increase the fees for parents.

However, there are other benefits. Volunteering and being a part of the life of the Centre – and the activities of your child – enrich the performing arts community on the North Shore and the experience of your young artist - as well as enriching your own life.

  • How can you help?

  • Obviously, there is many ways in which volunteers can help assist with costuming including those for non-sewers!  They include:  ironing, laundry, wardrobe, accessories, hand and/or machine sewing, costume management (sorting, collecting, bagging), costume inventory, costume storage, cutting, patterning (creating, copying), and fitting.

While much attention is paid to costuming, there are many other areas that are just as vital to the Centre. Help is very appreciated for: Back-stage Class Helper Mums, archives/scrapbooking, fundraising, props construction, props decorating (painting, gluing, dying), equipment maintenance, social functions (Movie Nights/Halloween), backstage assistance (dressing room supervisor, quick-change helper, backstage runner, etc.), building beautification, recycling, transporting supplies to/from theatre (costumes, props), as well as special event assistance with off site performances (Capilano Mall, Waterfront Park).

Of course, the list above is not an exhaustive list. If parents have expertise in other areas – we encourage you to let us know how you feel you may be able to assist in enhancing the performing arts experience for your, and others, children.
