Pro Musica: Pre School Music Classes with Monique Lefebvre

Using multi-sensorial teaching methods to promote success for all types of learners, and laying the foundation for lifelong music appreciation, there’s something for the singer, dancer, and instrumentalist in the exciting musical environment of Pro Musica classes. It is believed that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. Early music training can enhance a child’s ability to reason.

    • Level 1 Music Program (4-5yrs) – An imaginative, multi-sensory approach to music education and theory. Using Kodaly, Orff, Suzuki, Curwen and Dalcroze methods, this level introduces rhythmic notation, music terms, symbols and Solfége (Do, Re, Mi). Every class includes creative movement, ear training exercises and listening games, pitch matching, singing games, action poems, lullabies and percussion instruments.

Level II Music Program (Kindergarten) - Each class continues to offer a dynamic, multi-sensory approach to dancing, singing games, action poems, lullabies and percussion instruments, but builds upon the skills and theory covered in Level I. We now take the experience of music to a more abstract level. Expanding rhythmic notation and the symbols used for dynamics, we put together the notation to create written rhythms, which can be read and played by the children. In this program we also study the composers, learning interesting and often amusing facts about their lives. We listen to their music and interpret their pieces through art activities. Ear training becomes more challenging, and concepts of strong and weak beats in words and rhythms are explored using accents. New music terms are still being introduced and we now expand their application through playing instruments, singing and moving.

    • Tap and Time (for 4yrs - K) – Being a tapper is like being a percussionist with your feet. This class combines the basics of tap, with the basics of music rhythm and notation. Learn the abc’s of notes, tempo, accent and dynamics along with toe taps, shuffles, stamps and springs. Singing and jamming with percussion instruments for musicality come feel the beat and dance the song of rhythm.
