Pro Merita Academy
Pro Arté Centre is please to offer the Pro Merita Academy. Pro Merita and their educational partner, Self Design Learning Community, deliver an academic/enhancement program that blends Ministry-recognized academic curriculum and high performance enrichment activities. Recognized and awarded both Provincial and National recognition for excellence in education, Self Design and Pro Merita blend classroom learning, peer engagement and a student’s own initiative provide the optimal and accelerated learning experience for students involved in intensive extra-curricular training in sport or the performing arts.
The Purpose:
High performance artists have special training, festival, competitive and travel needs. Flexible and individual learning plans allow for the student to succeed academically and in their field of endeavour.
The Paradigm:
In recognition that students involved in intensive activities are generally children with positive work ethic, determination and self-motivated, the academic exposure focuses on intensive study format and performing arts/sports supportive learning (e.g. anatomy, competitive/sports psychology, nutrition, and injury prevention and recovery). Study plans are utilized to tailor each student’s educational experience and courses are managed to best suit the needs of the students. Learning within a uniquely-equipped environment, encouraged by affirmative peer influence and supported by a complete teaching team, the academic and personal success of each student is maximized. This paradigm, which adapts the most successful components of traditional and non-traditional learning formats, forms a collaborative environment where the parent and educational/extra-curricular activity providers work together to achieve a common goal – the “renaissance student” who is equipped for excellence in their field of pursuit.
The Product:
• Student’s academics are nurtured at the same time that their ambitions are recognized and supported.
• Examinations, project due dates and other stressful deadlines can be adjusted around an individual’s competitive commitment to relieve stress and to support and maximize academic success.
